It’s Not Always Same

Yesterday my friend told me story about how generousity make her life happy. She was sitting inside a full train and a few moment later an old couple got into the train. They didn’t get seat since the train was full packed. She was alone while there were 2 person there need seats. In her mind, if she gave the seat to the couple, still only one got the seat while the other would still stand, it didn’t sound fully help.

So inside her mind she battled if she really need to give her seat or not. After a while finally she made her mind, she gave up the seat to the old couple, whoever would sit, it’s not her problem, at least she had already done a good will.

Surprisingly another man, sat beside her (she didn’t this man) also gave his seat following her. And now there were two empty seats for the old couple. They sat there and then the grandma gave a shake hand to my friend and expressed her deep gratitude for her generousity.

The story is very memorable for me, especially at the next day I encounter same experience.

It’s on trans bus, I’ve sitted on my seat when an old couple get into the bus. Well, I still remember yesterday story, so I plan to do the same. But it seems I am a little bit late, since a man beside me has already stand up, giving in the seat to the grandma. Okay, I will give up my seat to grandpa I think. And then I stand up, please grandpa to sit at my seat. The next thing, I hear he anwers me out loud “I still have enough strength to stand up young boy, come back to your seat, I don’t need it”.

I am shocked. Then answer “No problem sir, in next station I will drop out, that’s why I am standing”, I say lying. On the next station I drop out and wait for next bus.

Well, sometime something happened just in the opposite of what you thinking. Enjoy all possibilities of life 🙂

Good or Bad? Who Knows?

There are 2 version of this story I know.

In old India, there lived a King who loves hunting. One day, he went hunting with his great Doctor. While hunting, the King was pricked by a strange plant on his middle finger. The finger became swollen and painful. The doctor applied a special ointment to the wound and bandage the King’s finger.

The King then asked, “Will my finger be alright?”

The Doctor answered, “Good ? Bad ? Who knows ?”

A few days passed and the King’s finger became worse. He summoned the doctor and asked, “Will my finger be alright?”

The Doctor answered, “Good ? Bad ? Who knows ?”

A few days later, the King’s finger was badly infected and has to be amputated from his hand. The King was furious and ordered the doctor to be jailed and hang in a month’s time.

Meanwhile, after a week’s of recovery, the King went hunting again. This time he was more unfortunate. He was capture by a cannibal tribe. Before the tribe can burn him as a human sacrifice, the priest noticed he had only nine fingers. It was the tribe’s believe that only a person with full and perfect body can be use as sacrifice. So they released the King.

Back to the Kingdom, the King immediately ordered the release of the doctor. The doctor was summoned to the King. The King said: “Great doctor, because of you, I lost my finger but in turn, it saves my life.”

The Doctor said, “Good ? Bad ? I know. Great King, if not because of you putting me in jail and thus I cannot go hunting with you. If not, I would have been captured by the tribe and used as the sacrifice. Thank you, you save my life !”

A farmer had one old horse that he used for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer’s neighbors heard about it, they sympathized with the old man over his bad luck. “Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?” said the farmer.

A week later, the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. “Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?” said the farmer.

Then, when the farmer’s son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone agreed that this was very bad luck. Not the farmer, who replied, “Bad Luck? Good luck? Who knows?”

Some weeks later, the army marched into the village and forced every able-bodied young man to go fight in a bloody war. When they saw that the farmer’s son had a broken leg, they let him stay. Everyone was very happy at the farmer’s good luck.

Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech 2005

It’s surprising for me to know that Steve Job has a very good talent at inspirational speech. The last thing I remember about him before I watch this clip is that he dares to fire his employee just because he can’t give satisfying answer to him inside the lift.

But after I watch it I think I change my perception about him (especially in the day of his memorial today).

Inspirational Corner Help

It’s started when one day I need to give speech and it should come from resources outside of my life. I am looking for any story / opinion / resource anywhere but can’t find it. It’s very ugly moment for me but I still need to deliver my speech, with a so so story.

Another day after that, just a normal day, I open youtube and find a very great speech. The content is very inspiring and motivating, and I just can say: Whoaaa this is what I am looking for on the other day. But I find it not in correct moment.

That’s make me think, why don’t I collect all this story and I will know where to go when I need it. So I bring this new category: Inspirational Corner. I will copy and paste (with resource acknowledgment) some of plenty inspiring story from out there and put it as one of inspirational story I choose. I believe it’s not only useful for speech, but also giving short of insight in correct moment for anyone who looking for it.

So enjoy them !!!
